HFEL-For the betterment of humankind!

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Lab (HFEL) at KAIST is dedicated to advancing innovative methods, techniques, and models in human factors and ergonomics. By leveraging scientific and engineering principles, data, and methodologies, we investigate human capabilities, limitations, and interactions within systems. Our lab is committed to designing human-centered products, systems, and technologies to improve safety, health, comfort, user experience, and overall human performance.

We are particularly interested in the following 4 research areas:

  • Technology for healthy aging (Focus: ICT/AI-based technologies and solutions for fall and injury prevention)
  • HCI/UX, Human factors in emerging technologies (Focus: Natural user interaction in VR/AR and Human-Robot Interaction)
  • Human biomechanics, behavior and performance modeling (Focus: Data-driven and advanced modeling of human behavior and performance)
  • Digital human modeling and ergonomic design (Focus: Digital humans and fit/comfort of custom products)
